DOMAINE LABRANCHE LAFFONT
MAUMUSSON-LAGUIAN , Gers
Über uns
A particularity of the estate is that it has a heritage of very old vines, including one of the last plots of pre-phylloxera tannat dating from the end of the 19th century. In prime years, it is vinified separately and gives rise to a complex, fine wine with exceptional length in the mouth. It was in 1993, upon leaving oenology school, that Christine Dupuy took over the 6 hectares of family vines and became the youngest winemaker in the appellation. Adopted and supported by the profession, she does astonishing work from the start. Its objective is simple, to produce quality wines and to fight against this fashion for stereotypical wines. The basis is the terroir… .
A terroir with clay, pebbles which help maintain heat and good exposure…and then comes the work of the winemaker. She lowered yields, adopted malolactic fermentations in barrels and tried biodynamics. She wants to let Tannat express itself as much as possible. The estate covers 22 hectares, 18 of which are located in Madiran and 4 in the Pacherenc-du-Vic-Bilh appellation. All wines are certified in Organic Agriculture. WINE TOURISM: – The “nugget” of the property: Take advantage of the guided tour to discover the Tannat vines from before phylloxera and dating from the end of the 19th century, Christine is one of the two winegrowers in Madiran to still own them. Tasting at the end of the visit. By reservation only.
