Domaine de Florian

About

The grandfather of fabulist Jean Pierre Claris de Florian had this beautiful château built in the 17th century at a place called Florian (from the Latin florens, flowering) near Sauve.

History

The young Florian (1755-1794) spent the first years of his life on the estate, an environment rich in the variety of flowers and animals that inspired his fables throughout his literary career.

His fables are imbued with an “amiable and benevolent morality that excludes neither malice nor mockery”: Sainte Beuve. Recognized for the quality of his writing, he was elected to the Académie Française in 1788. A great nephew of Voltaire, Florian was also the author of a song that has survived the centuries and is still hummed today: “Plaisir d’Amour”. He died in 1794 at the age of 39 in Sceaux, where he had retired.
The estate

The high quality of a wine is never the result of chance. Vines have been grown on the Domaine de Florian since 1820. It requires a generous terroir, the complicity of the climate, the know-how and passion of men. Situated in the foothills of the Cévennes, between the communes of Sauve and Quissac, the Domaine de Florian vineyard flourishes on a clay-limestone terroir that allows low yields. Hot, sunny summer days are tempered by cool nights. It is to this nocturnal micro-climate that we owe the finesse and distinction of Domaine de Florian wines.

After a succession of owners, the Rico family acquired the estate in 1973. The estate expresses its potential on a clay-limestone terroir with marl bands, a microclimate with marked amplitudes and twelve well-adapted grape varieties. These Bordeaux-style wines are well-structured, well-structured, full of finesse and elegance.

In the cellar, an area is reserved for children, with a tasting of products adapted to their taste buds and expectations: sweets and fruit juices. Parents can enjoy the Domaine’s range of vins de pays d’Oc, and discover the barrel cellar adjacent to the cellar. The estate is also listed in the Guide du Routard for its excellent value for money. A sure bet, without a doubt.
