This War Memorial was sculpted by the Tarn-et-Garonnais André Abbal, renowned sculptor who also built the one in Moissac. The scene depicted there is at the same time moving, stunning and unusual for such a sculpture.The carved soldier is neither wounded, nor dead, nor in combat, as it is common to see him on the Monuments to the Dead. He simply dreams. He thinks of his own, his former life, the work of the field. A man ploughs before him. The monument captures the social and human identity of the Poilu.
