ABBAYE DE SAINT SEVER DE RUSTAN

SAINT-SEVER-DE-RUSTAN , Hautes-Pyrénées – Cultural heritage

About

Protected as historical monuments, the Benedictine abbey of Saint Sever De Rustan is mentioned for the first time in a document from the 11th century. The architecture of this abbey located at the gates of Bigorre, shows the turbulent history of the region: Romanesque capitals with Gothic vaults, classical facades with the splendor of Baroque woodwork, the Abbey of Saint-Sever-de- Rustan comes to us, from destruction to reconstruction, like a veritable compendium of art history! The abbey is also known for its “relocated” cloister in the 19th century, whose capitals were reused in the cloister of the Massey garden in Tarbes.
