Abbaye fortifiée et Parc de Loc-Dieu
MARTIEL , Aveyron – Cultural heritage
About
Unique example of a 12th century Cistercian Abbey, fortified in the 15th century. Transformed into a park and château, it has conserved its monastic parts and its original domain.
Loc-Dieu is a rare example of a Cistercian domain transformed into a romantic park in the 19th century, around the integrally conserved and family inhabited monastic buildings. The visit enables, from the monastic domain and its evolution, discovering the château’s monumental vestibule, then the cloister, the chapter house and lastly the abbey-church. The Mona Lisa living room and paintings from the Louvre in 1940 is evoked by a small exhibition of “Jocondes (Mona Lisa) transfigurées”.
