About
Come wander over its rampart walk, it will bring you back to the time of knights, while giving you an incomparable view on the Ardèche and on the Vallée du Rhône!
The presence of the Ardèche river and the strategic position explain the singular location of Aiguèze. Fortified in the 11th and 12th centuries, Aiguèze soon became a coveted element of defence as it allowed a complete control over navigation. In the 14th century, the village faced its most terrible assault, leading to a partial destruction. It was only a century later during the Renaissance that the village got back on its feet, and offers today a very particular architecture and picturesque narrow streets. This authenticity is the reason for the village being classified in the “Most Beautiful Villages of France” label (Plus Beau Village de France) since 2005. Come wander over its rampart walk, it will bring you back to the time of knights, while giving you an incomparable view on the Ardèche and on the Vallée du Rhône!
