Cathédrale Saint-Théodorit et Saint-Firmin
UZES , Gard – Cultural heritage
About
From the 5th century to the French Revolution, Uzès was the episcopal see, with its cathedral built in 1090. Destroyed during the Albigensian War, rebuilt then destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the current cathedral dates from 1652.
The neo-Romanesque façade was plastered over the old building in 1873. The rib-vaulted interior was probably richer than it appears today.
Inside, the 17th-century organs can still be seen. The organs have the unusual feature of still having their original shutters.
A number of concerts are organized to showcase the quality of this instrument.
