CHÂTEAU D’OUROUT
ARGELES-GAZOST , Hautes-Pyrénées – Cultural heritage
About
The community of Ourout depended on the abbey of Saint-Savin and its castle, so wonderfully preserved, appears to us as it was transformed in the 16th and 17th centuries. It has on the west side 2 rectangular towers and a cylindrical tower. It contains a staircase in the square tower which is surmounted by a hourdage with loopholes. We know that it was inhabited from the 11th century, and during the revolution it was used as a store. It was successively inhabited by the families of Ourout, Mayouraou, Antin and Saint Pastou. Later, Mr. Saint Pastou’s granddaughter inherited the castle and married Count Maxime de Roquette Buisson.
