CHATEAU DE PRADES

SAINTE-ENIMIE , Lozère – Cultural heritage

About

The old village rises in amphitheater from the river to the remains of a magnificent feudal castle. Mentioned at the end of the 13th century, its architecture dates back to the 12th century. It became the residence of the prior of Sainte-Enimie. He underwent many changes over the centuries and resisted the onslaught of Merle. The rich vineyards of the church of Prades were in 1280 attached to the monastery of Sainte-Enimie because of the extension of the latter. “In 1580, the intrepid first warrior of Sainte-Enimie forced Mathieu Merle, leader of the Protestant troops to lift the siege of Prades and turn back”. The castle is listed as a historical monument since 1974. Private property.
