SAINT SATURNIN DE TARTARONNE CASTLE
SAINT-SATURNIN , Lozère – Cultural heritage
About
Castle dating from the beginning of the 14th century, remodeled in the 16th and 17th centuries, in the heart of a charming village in Lozère, nestled in the circus of Saint Saturnin (Causse de Sauveterre). Former royal stronghold, the construction of the castle, initiated by the Comtors de Montferrand in the 12th century, is remarkable and has the last royal keep of Gévaudan. In 1995, a family descended from Amphélise de Montferrand, mother of Pope Gévaudanais Urbain V, bought the ruins of the castle and embarked on a long restoration campaign. It was classified as a Historic Monument in November 1995 both for his history and for his architecture.
