The Sommières Castle: a historical treasure undergoing restoration!
The castle is currently undergoing a major facelift! No visits this time, as our old fortress is undergoing a royal facelift!
But don’t worry, it’ll be back, more majestic than ever. In the meantime, admire it from afar… and imagine the secrets it will soon reveal!

In the meantime, a little history…

The Bermond Tower, Guardian of Time
Built in the 11th century, Sommières castle has stood the test of time, undergoing sieges, transformations and occupations. During the Wars of Religion, Protestant prisoners were locked up here, leaving behind historic graffiti that can still be seen today.

An Immersive Visit to the Heart of the Middle Ages
When it reopens, the château will be offering you a unique opportunity to discover the :
– The Bermond Tower, 22 metres high, with an exceptional panorama.
– The chapel, formerly a Huguenot prison, transformed into an immersive space with film, video, touch table and exhibition.
– The monumental courtyard and ramparts, evidence of medieval military architecture.
– A treasure hunt for children, guided tours and workshops for children (booking required), for a captivating plunge into the Middle Ages.

Accès : Free parking close to the château.
We recommend that you park your vehicle in the Belleau parking lot, accessible via boulevard Ernest François by following the “Parking” signs (200 m away. GPS: 43.78365, 4.09314), or in the Vidourle parking lot along the river (800 m away. GPS: 43.78433, 4.08616).
Two parking spaces for people with reduced mobility are located at Place des Canons (access via Chemin du Château Fort, near the château).
The ticket office is located at the rear of the château, on the medieval garden side.

Accueil : Difficult access for people with walking difficulties (stairs).
Reception / ticket office on site. Information by phone.
