CASTEL OF VALLEGUE

VALLEGUE , Haute-Garonne – Cultural heritage

About

Vallègue is an old fortified village from 1273, and its castle is the best-preserved part of it. After belonging to the empire general Compans, it was sold several times in the 19th century. It was installed in 1996 and its new owner has been restoring and improving it ever since.

The castle consists of the juxtaposition of elements that have been redesigned at different times since the 14th century and owes its unity to the 70-metre long façade which, with its two towers, offers the well-preserved appearance of an imposing medieval fortification. The entire north facade is flanked by two buttress towers as well as two corner towers, equipped with archers on three levels. At the end of the 17th century, major works were carried out to transform this medieval fortress into a pleasant and comfortable residence. The site can be visited every day, except Monday and Sunday, from July to September, from 1.30 pm to 7.30 pm. From October to June, visits are by appointment.
