FORT CASTLE

The Castle was built at the end of the 14th century for the family of the Barons of Apcher. Its present appearance is the result of its additions in the 16th and 17th centuries. Built in the 14th century, the castle of the Fort is one of the rare testimonies of buildings of this time in the north of Lozere. It was inhabited by a member of the family of Apcher, one of the baronies who shared the Gévaudan during the Middle Ages.

Almost square in plan, the building has three floors, topped by a machicolated walkway. Even if the castle has undergone few transformations, its current architecture dates from the 16th or 17th centuries. Buildings were added in the 17th century.
