Chruch of Baillasbats

SIMORRE , Gers – Cultural heritage

About

The church at Baillasbats, nestling on the Gers hillsides near Simorre, offers a remarkable view of the countryside and the Pyrenees.

Dedicated to Saint Valentin (patron saint of winegrowers), this small church is only open on certain occasions (notably exhibitions). However, it is part of the Simorre heritage discovery trail.

‘The seigneury of Baillasbats (etymology unknown) belonged to the county of Astarac. It became a commune during the Revolution, and was united with Simorre in 1836. The castle, demolished in 1789, a water mill and a windmill stood on its territory, which is crossed by the Lauze river. ’

To find out more about the church, visit the site where two explanatory panels have been installed.
