ÉGLISE DE GAZOST

GAZOST , Hautes-Pyrénées – Cultural heritage

About

The church with the bell tower-wall is from the 17th-18th centuries, but the entrance rests on two medieval bases in reuse.
Inside, it is said that during construction work, a pagan votive altar dedicated to Balco (Belcon), the goddess of the waters, was found. The waters of Gazost were very famous in Gallo-Roman times. The spring is a few kilometres away from the Palouma mines and the sawmill. The church was recently restored. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
