Eglise de Ste Geneviève sur Argence
ARGENCES EN AUBRAC , Aveyron – Cultural heritage
About
Ancient church with 2 twin naves separated by round pillars, demolished at the end of the 14th century. One sees the remains between the chapelle de Thénières and the presbytery.
In the 15th century the lords of Baumont de Thénières had this chapel built as a place for their burial place and one can still see against the north wall, their mausoleum surmounted by emblems of the crusades in memory of their ancestors… who took part in these foreign expeditions… It is in a pure Gothic style. The stone is a fine granite, probably from Vines and delicately worked. The ribs of the vault are very rich and the key stone carries the Baumont coat of arms. The current church is orientated north-south and on its side is a chapel called the chapelle de Thénières or Ténières (15th century statues, standing cross, etc…)
