About

The church of Saint-André d’Ayzac, of Romanesque origin, was redesigned in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the shape of a Latin cross, with a single nave and two side chapels, it ends with a semi-circular chevet. The bell tower-porch is protected by a slate roof with four slopes. The original door to the south, which opened onto the old cemetery, has been walled up.
Inside, against an apse of exposed stone, sits a magnificent late 17th-early 18th century altarpiece. In the centre, a crucifixion framed by two statues in the round: Saint John and Mary Magdalene with her long hair, stand out against a background of clouds painted on a canvas. On either side of this one sit two large statues: on the right, that of Saint Andrew, on the left, that of the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus in her arms. Each of these statues is framed by two twisted columns with foliage. This altarpiece with the tabernacle is attributed to the CLAVERIE workshop of Lourdes.
The pulpit has a dorsal surmounted by a mantling lampshade.
Two chapels complete the ensemble, that of the Virgin, on the left, and that of Saint Roch, on the right.
