SAINT ETIENNE’S – SAHORRE
SAHORRE , Pyrénées-Orientales – Cultural heritage
About
Sahorre’s first church is mentioned in a deed of 869 indicating its belonging to the Abbey of St. Mary of Arles. This church was replaced by a Romanesque one during the 12th century. It is dedicated to St Etienne and has a single nave and semi-circular apse with a 19-meter-high bell tower. The chevet is beautifully decorated with gear teeth and blind arches, the stone dressing is also very attractive. There are two side chapels carved into the walls’ thickness, which give a trefoil chancel impression.
