The village of Fraissinet-de-Fourques is located below the Causse Méjean, along a stream that flows from the hamlet of Clauzels
Faithful to the authority of the Roman Church since the Protestant Reformation, the parish is a sort of Catholic enclave isolated in the middle of the Cévennes, which are mostly Huguenot. This led to several attacks, and the church was desecrated and partially destroyed during the religious conflicts of the 16th and 18th centuries.
Despite this, successive reconstructions and remodelling have preserved the Romanesque character of the building. Mentioned as early as the 12th century, it has a nave of three bays opening onto the choir, whose apse is vaulted in a cul-de-four. The side chapels date from the 17th century. The outer walls of the nave have preserved a remarkable decoration of Lombard arcades which are original.
The massive bell tower is covered with a curious truncated roof. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
