About
The church of Fontanes dates from the 13th century and is dedicated to Saint Julian. Its architecture underwent transformations during the 17th and 19th centuries. Its west façade features a bell gable with two openings, housing, among other things, a bell dated 1663 and adorned with coats of arms and inscriptions, and a portal with capitals and semicircular arches. Inside, the nave has a barrel vault and is flanked by two side chapels. The south chapel is the more remarkable of the two due to its mural decoration. A distinctive feature of this church is a 17th-century statue of Christ. It is believed to be the work of an Italian shepherd who carved it with a knife. The chancel has an octagonal apse.
