About
The parish church of Sainte-Eulalie dates from 1820 and has its origins in a chapel dedicated to Saint Elizabeth built in 1723. Enlarged at the beginning of the 20th century, it retains vestiges of its primitive form, such as its south portal. Inside, there is a contemporary Christ on the Cross in a very expressive attitude of pain. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
The oldest mention of a church in Sainte-Eulalie dates back to 1277. It is the old village church, which was of Romanesque construction, replaced in 1820 by a small chapel dedicated to Saint Elisabeth built in the heart of the village in 1723.
The main part of the building dates from the 18th century and is neo-Romanesque. The western façade, built in 1924, houses the current entrance gate. The old portal of the original chapel can still be seen on the south façade, decorated with a sculpted keystone
Inside, the decoration remains very sober, with only a bare band at the base of the vault. The choir houses a Christ on the cross sculpted by a local artist, Mr Jardé, in an attitude of suffering. Above the entrance portal is a stained glass window referring to Saint Eulalie.
In front of the south façade of the church, there is a large cross called the Bubonic cross. On it, a cast iron Christ on the Cross has been fixed, from the contemporary period. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
