SAINT MADELEINE CHURCH OF PLANCHAMP

The Church of Sainte-Madeleine in Planchamp was built in 1905 thanks to the generosity of Frédéric Barrot, on the site of an older church. Its neo-Gothic style is immediately apparent, with its slender façade topped by a spire. However, certain elements reveal a taste for neo-Romanesque architecture, such as the barrel-vaulted porch sheltering a portal with three barrel-vaulted archivolts. Inside, the style is entirely neo-Gothic, with a single nave vaulted in a barrel vault, the round arches of the side chapels, and the semicircular apse decorated with a round-arched arcade, the column capitals of which are sculpted with foliage. The high altar, which appears to come from the old building, is richly decorated (scarves holding the medallion which features the Lamb of God, cherubs, niches housing statues of saints) and is surmounted by a display canopy with draperies held by angels, which gives it a baroque appearance.
