About

The church of Sainte-Marie of Montalba owns an altarpiece masterpiece built in 1600 with its virgin in marble from the XIV century. This altarpiece was attribuated by the professor Daurliat to Honoré Rigau, the great-grandfather of the peinter of Louis XIV. The marble virgin statue named by tradition Notre Dame de la Vall Verda (the green valley) holds in her hand a pine cone while her child is playing with a bird. The statue was classified Monument Historique in 1954. Two other small altarpieces are baroque style: The altarpiece of the Christ from 1718 with the attributes of passion and these of Saint Gaudérique and Isidore from 1715.
