Dedicated to Saint-Amans, the church of the Aveyron commune of Salmiech is located on the western edge of the Lévézou plateau. A composite building marked by the end of the flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance styles (15th-16th centuries), the original foundation seems to have been undertaken in the 5th century under the episcopate of the first bishop of Rodez; it was therefore placed under the name of “Saint-Amans”. The whole monument appears rectangular, in extension of the bell tower and the base of the church where a sacristy is built and replaces the entrance hatch. The nave is made up of 4 bays, vaulted with ribbed ceilings. Thus, the balanced shape of the roof increases the elegance of the bell tower and that of the whole.
The association “Les Amis du Clocher de Saint-Amans” wants to make known the interest of this emblematic religious heritage. Nowadays, the preservation of this church constitutes a large-scale project which is essential for the conservation and the development of this monument and the precious furniture which it shelters. In view of the substantial but necessary cost of this work, you can make your contribution through this subscription in favor of the church of Saint-Amans de Salmiech.
