About

Discover the church dating from 1099 and the priory of St-Sauveur, a work of Romanesque art. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme

Located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Grands Causses, the southern Aveyron village of Verrières boasts the ruins of an old castle and three religious buildings.

Dedicated to Saint Sauveur, the village church dates back to the 11th century, but was remodeled in the 16th century following the Protestant siege of Verrières. Featuring circular pillars supporting the vaults, as well as paired and superimposed columns to mark the entrance to the choir, this monument boasts architectural elements characteristic of regional Romanesque art. Partly ruined in the 19th century, restoration programs were carried out between 1875 and 1877, notably on the upper part of the nave walls, the façade and the bell tower.
This church is part of a proposed circuit dedicated to Romanesque art: “Romanesque heritage along the Muse valley, the raspes du tarn and surrounding area”. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
