About

The church of Notre-Dame, Saint-Laurent de Jézeau is a former property of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, a military order responsible for the safety of pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
From the Romanesque period, only the twin-bayed bell tower-wall, the nave and the chevet, as well as the tympanum-chrism reused in the entrance wall of the cemetery remain.
After a fire between 1530 and 1540, the church was partly rebuilt around 1559. The Romanesque vault was replaced by a wooden vault decorated with remarkable paintings and a richly decorated altarpiece was installed in the choir. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
