DEODAT ROCHE’S HOUSE

ARQUES , Aude – Cultural heritage

About

Arques is the village which saw the birth of Déodat Roché (1877-1978), the historian of Catharism. His house is the location for a permanent exhibition devoted to Catharism and its interpretations. In the heart of the village stands the birthplace of Déodat Roché (1877-1978), the historian of Catharism. To commemorate the village’s illustrious son, the house today contains a permanent exhibition devoted to Catharism. It offers visitors 4 approaches to this religion that go beyond the purely religious: first, a historical approach; second, a spiritual approach; third a political approach; finally an approach devoted to everyday life among the Cathars. On the first floor a sound recording enables visitors to find out about Déodat Roché’s life. The entrance ticket also entitles you to visit Arques Castle.
