MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY AND PALEONTOLOGY IN MINERVE
MINERVE , Hérault – Cultural heritage
About
The Museum of Archaeology and Paleontology of Minerve invites you to a real journey back in time! Created by local scholars and inhabitants of the village, the museum of Minerve presents numerous fossils collected by Jean Miquel de Barroubio. It also bears witness to human settlement in the valleys of the Cesse and the Brian, and in the Minervois, since prehistoric times. Flint tools from the Paleolithic period, Neolithic pottery, ornaments from the region’s dolmens, everyday objects from the time of the Gauls to the Visigoths, as well as ceramics and glassware from the modern era, reflect a rich history. On the first floor, an exhibition retraces the excavations carried out during the renovation of the ramparts. Thanks to more than 6000 objects collected, the archaeological operation has delivered exceptional results shedding light on the history of a site that is more than 6000 years old.
