After creating the “Maison de la Cabrette” in Vines, the commune of Cantoin (in northern Aveyron, 20 minutes from Laguiole) has just completed the final stages of extending the same museum space.

The first floor of this extension is dedicated to bagpipes. After surveying the collections that the museums had organized around this family of instruments, it turned out that :
Cantoin is the bagpipe capital of the world.
This museum is ahead of those in New York, Brussels, Paris, The Hague, Glasgow, Montluçon and elsewhere.
In the many showcases devoted to France, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the southern Mediterranean and the Indo-Persian world, you can discover almost 120 different bagpipes.

On the same floor, you’ll find educational and historical panels, the reconstruction of a 19th-century cabrette maker’s workshop, and numerous screens where you can watch and listen to artists from the world of bagpipes. In addition, listening points will connect you to headphones which will be handed out to you at the entrance to the cabrette house.

Part of the upstairs is devoted to the history of the hurdy-gurdy and the fiddle, and another part to the history of the accordion.
Temporary exhibitions are also presented on this floor.
In 2020/2021, the theme will be devoted to Maurice Busset, an Auvergne painter who was very sensitive to the traditional music of his region.

Come and discover the incredible richness of the new “Maison de la Cabrette” and the fantastic diversity of bagpipes from all over the world:
From Russia to Portugal
sweden to Rajasthan, and all the countries of Europe and the southern Mediterranean.

Open: school vacations, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 2pm to 6pm
