About
Located, upstream from the village, below the Turon de la Courade, this bridge gives access to the path leading to the circus. Built on a donkey’s back, it allows you to cross the gave thanks to a segmental arch made of large limestone slabs laid on edge. It has 4 stone corbels under each of the piers to support a coat hanger for its construction or restoration. The parapets, recently repaired, are made of rubble stones embedded in mortar. A pebble calade covers the floor of the bridge.
The current bridge of Nadau (Nadau means Christmas in local patois) dates from the middle of the 19th century (1856). It was then rebuilt entirely in masonry and replaced an old wooden footbridge. It appears as it is on a photograph dated September 1898 and kept at the heritage media library, as well as on a canvas painted in oil on isorel by Edmond VALÈS. It was restored during the second half of the 20th century.
