Saint-Martin-de-Londres

30 minutes from Montpellier. Stop: Centre-Pharmacie. The village is home to one of the best-preserved Romanesque monuments in the Languedoc: an 11th century church.

After a stroll through the narrow lanes, enjoy a refreshing break on one of the terraces in the square, shaded by century-old plane trees and its fountain. Find out more.

Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois

45 minutes from Montpellier. Stop: Mairie. The village lies at the northern gateway to the Gorges de l'Hérault and is heaven for outdoor sports: canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, via ferrata, climbing, caving and more.

Laroque

50 minutes from Montpellier. Stop: Les Berges. This small fortified medieval village stands on a rocky outcrop on the edge of the Gorges de l'Hérault and is a sight for sore eyes.

Le Vigan

1 hr 20 from Montpellier. Stop: Communauté de Communes. Le Vigan is a lively little town surrounded by greenery. You'll love strolling around the Saturday morning market and sampling local produce such as pélardon and Cévennes sweet onions.

Listed as a "Station Verte", it's a great base for hikes or rides around Cirque de Navacelles on an e-bike, which you can hire from Cigale Aventure. Find out more
