Sarrancolin

minutes from Lannemezan. Stop: place du Vivier. Sarrancolin was a mining site for Pyrenean marble, which you can see for yourself at the Garnier Opera in Paris.

Arreau

35 min from Lannemezan. Stop: Quai de la Neste. Arreau is part of the "Pyrénées Aure Louron" Grand Site Occitanie.

The village stands where the Louron and Aure "nestes" meet. "Neste" means mountain streams. Arreau has unique heritage sites. Gaze at its château, standing proud on the river confluence, its unusual town hall and the timber-framed houses lining the banks of the Aure. Find out more.

50 min from Lannemezan. Stop: Bellevue Bascule. A pretty village in the upper Aure Valley with narrow lanes, a listed chapel and Saint-Barthélemy Church

Saint-Lary

1 hr from Lannemezan. Stop: Ardoune. The number of shops, holiday homes and hotels prove how popular Saint-Lary is as a ski and spa resort.

Carved stone, slate and half-timbering make this warm and inviting village a magnet for visitors. Things to do: relax at Sensoria Rio spa, take the cable car to the ski resort (also open in summer), sample gâteau à la broche (spit cake) and local honey etc. Find out more.

Connection for Piau-Engaly and Loudenvielle

Make the most of the liO bus services in winter at the Quai de la Neste stop in Arreau. Take your pick from a variety of destinations:

- Within 30 minutes: the Louron Valley with stops at Balnea (a spa on the shores of Lake Génos-Loudenvielle) and the cable car to Peyragudes ski resort.

-Within 75 minutes: Piau-Engaly ski resort, just past Saint-Lary.
