Tarbes, the capital of the Bigorre region, has been renowned for its horses and hussars since the time of Napoleon. The town is still famous for its national stud farm, and for its 2 barracks housing the parachute hussars.
The other star of the town is the Tarbais Bean, an ingredient used in the recipe for cassoulet. Finally, note that this dynamic town, near the Pyrenean ski resorts, is the birthplace of the writer Théophile Gautier and of Maréchal Foch.
Tarbes, base camp for exploring the Hautes-Pyrénées, is famous for its Anglo-Arab horse heritage and the illustrious people who were born there.
