Entirely designed around a 70m long Gallo-Roman rampart and dating from the 3rd Century, this space showcases the collections of the Catholic Institute of Toulouse.
The venue owes its name to Abbot Georges Baccrabère who, with the help of volunteers, set out a museographical space from 1973 onwards around an ancient wall that was uncovered in 1933. The permanent collection is displayed in 4 sections and one exhibition hall, a hub of artistic exchanges that encourages different art forms to converse. The Antiquity section includes the famous rampart and numerous sculptures, whilst the Middle Ages section offers up capitals and headstones. The foundry bears witness to Toulouse’s revolutionary period and its industrial heritage in superb brick vaulted galleries. Finally, an area “craftsmanship of yesteryear” presents the necessary tools for ancient savoir-faire.
