Built in the Middle Ages on a rocky peak so as to ensure its safety, the village La-Roque-sur-Cèze developed harmoniously throughout the centuries. La-Roque-sur-Cèze is classified in the “Most Beautiful Villages of France” label (Plus Beau Village de France) since 2007, and its narrow and cobblestoned streets had been an asset in classifying the village as soon as 1958 on the inventory which lists the sites of France. The castle from the 11th century, the chapel and the Charles-Martel Roman bridge are the main features and offer this delightful heritage. Reputed for its exceptional landscapes and patrimonial identity, the place is quite popular and many visitors come every year to walk about, and they are offered new scenes around every corner. When visiting, do keep in mind this local saying: “Quau vai a La Ròca, se i cròca”, in other words: “You come to La Roque, you find your rock”. Be careful of it being a heart-stopper! And don’t forget the beautiful gem called “Les Cascades du Sautadet”, below the village, a must-see!
