This castle of the Counts of Foix was probably built in the late 12th or early 13th century, when the Counts regained authority over the Saurat valley. It’s not known when the site was abandoned, but the ruins of the second floor of a fine, rustic keep remain. Its distinctive feature is a spur tower, a rare form in the area. On the other hand, the fortress’s perimeter wall is virtually invisible, as are the buildings that were constructed within it. The panoramic view over the valley and the ruins of the Château de Calamès (13th-15th centuries) is particularly impressive and well worth a visit. At the foot of the tower, consolidated by village volunteers in July 2009, a panoramic orientation table and explanatory panel make your visit to this site even more enjoyable.
